All matches in the first qualifying round are played in the form of mini-tournaments from which one team will advance, plus the best runners-up. If teams finish level on points, they are split by (a) points gained in group matches between the teams in question (b) superior goal difference resulting from the matches among the teams in question (c) goals scored in group matches between the teams. This is then reapplied from several teams to two teams if needed.
